Bandits have released the 14-year-old eldest son and brother-in-law of Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Malam Abubakar Mushawy Ibrahim, who were kidnapped about three months ago.

Daily Trust reported that the bandits forcibly entered the scholar’s residence in Fondisho, a community along the Kaduna-Zaria highway, and abducted the scholar, his wife, newborn baby, and eldest son on August 9, 2023.

The tragic incident occurred the day after the scholar’s wife gave birth to their newborn.

According to a close associate of the scholar, who pleaded anonymity, the bandits eventually released the wife and the newborn child after a month in captivity.

However, they also released the scholar last month after an undisclosed amount was paid as ransom, including phones given to the bandits.

Another associate of the Islamic Scholar, Ustaz Muhammad Abubakar Kawo on Wednesday confirmed that the scholar’s brother-in-law, who was held by the bandits after paying an agreed ransom to them in the forest, and the son were released on Tuesday night.

“The young men returned home on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, around 8:30 pm after an additional ransom was paid to the bandits. The children were taken to the hospital for treatment due to fatigue,” he said.

He identified those released as Hamdan Abubakar (son) and the brother-in-law, Zayyad Isah.

According to him, the scholar is still suffering from fatigue despite the treatment after his release but expressed hope that with the release of his son and brother-in-law, he would recover fast.

He thanked all those who assisted them in prayers and support that led to the successful return of all those captives and wished them Allah’s protection and blessings.
