SDP disowns group, warns public against false representation

Date:

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has disowned a group known as the Alliance for Transformation Mandate (ATM), describing it as an unknown and unauthorized entity with no ties to the party.

In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the SDP said the group’s recent “World Press Conference,” where it claimed to represent the party as foot soldiers, is misleading and should be disregarded by Nigerians.

“This group is not recognized by the SDP and was clearly assembled to push the personal agenda of its sponsors. It holds no authority to speak for or represent the party,” the statement read.

The party stressed that, according to its constitution, only the National Chairman and the National Publicity Secretary are empowered to make official statements on behalf of the SDP.

Reaffirming its commitment to internal discipline and democratic values, the party emphasized that while members have the freedom to express personal views, official party positions must be communicated through established channels.

The SDP also used the opportunity to declare its full confidence in its 2023 presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, praising his consistent representation of the party’s values both during and after the election.

“There is no dispute between the party and Prince Adebayo. He remains one of our most respected leaders,” Aiyenigba stated.

The statement concluded with a strong advisory to the general public: “The so-called ATM group is fictitious and unknown to the SDP.

Any claims made in the party’s name by such groups should be completely disregarded.”
