The Executive Chairman of the Courier and Logistics Management Institute, Professor Simon Emeje, has disclosed that the country has not harnessed the potential of its logistics, courier, and transport industry, estimated at N3tn.

He stated this during a press conference to announce the Courier and Logistics Management Institute International Conference and Investiture 2023, scheduled for November 23, in Lagos.

Emeje emphasised that the field of courier, logistics, and transport management remained relatively untapped on a global scale.

“In contemporary times, the business of courier, logistics, and transport has become critical in national development.

“This prominence and the need to train and promote professionalism and certification in courier, logistics, transport, and management services have made it imperative to establish this institute,” the institute’s chairman asserted.

He underscored the critical role of logistics in economic development, adding that as a country’s economy advances, it is propelled by the development of logistics.

According to Emeje, the growth of logistics serves as the foundation for the development of other industries and infrastructure within the economy.

Highlighting the potential of the industry, he said, “Today, logistics is even more important when it is considered a base for sectors of the economy because it helps to link the flow of goods and services from the first partners to the final customers.

“The logistics, courier, transport, and management industry command an average asset worth over N3tn, presenting substantial potential for job creation.”

He explained that the CLMI conference and investiture would focus on the theme “Logistics Solutions and National Infrastructure Development”.

He said the choice reflected the institute’s commitment to exploring the pivotal role of logistics in addressing national infrastructure needs and facilitating economic growth.
