Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge encourages Man Utd’s observation, ‘I watched all the players in training.’
Kipchoge spent some time at Manchester United as a guest of co-owner Ratcliffe.
Ineos have made many changes at Manchester United since taking control of football operations.
The idea behind the visit was for the players to gain inspiration from the greatest marathon runner ever.
Ineos also sponsor Kipchoge’s NN Running Team, which should give you a better idea about how the visit came about.
Kipchoge revealed he was asked to come and share his expertise with United’s players and staff. The respected runner also tipped United to be on fire next season.
“I watched all the players in training, so I could see how it was,” Kipchoge told the Daily Mail.
“I shared my experience of fitness and running, my philosophy and my thinking, because sport is about the heart and the mind.
“They are learning that, slowly, slowly. Soon they will be there. I believe Manchester United will be on fire next season.
“I support Manchester United now because of the relationship with Jim and Ineos. Now we are a family and we build together for a good football team that can produce holistic footballers.”
The relationship between Kipchoge and Ratcliffe dates back to 2019.
Kipchoge worked with Ineos as he became the first man to run a sub-two-hour marathon in Vienna, although it did not register as a world record as it was not run under race conditions.
When asked about his relationship with the British billionaire, Kipchoge added: “Jim is a very good man. We talk every day through WhatsApp. We text each other all the time.
“I met Jim in 2019 in Monaco, and he had an idea that it had not been since 1954 (Roger Bannister’s four-minute mile) when a human made history in sport.
“He offered me a chance to try and make history, and I used that chance in a good way. I managed to run under two hours. He is a real enthusiast as far as sport is concerned.”
United fans will hope Ratcliffe’s enthusiasm can bring the glory days back to Old Trafford.
