Moses Simon could become 1st Nigerian to win Africa Player of the Year Award in over two decades

Date:

Super Eagles of Nigeria prolific and versatile winger, Moses Simon has been in superb form so far this year for both club and country which made him to be ranked as one of the best in his position in Europe’s top five leagues.

The Nantes Football Club of France dazzler announced himself in the last Africa Cup of Nations tournament held in Cameroon where he delivered at the peak from the start against the Pharaohs of Egypt till they disappointedly crashed out of the competition in the round of 16.

Moses Simon with his great influx was tipped as a strong contender to compete for the best player of the tournament before the dream was cut short following their early exit from the competition against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.

In the course of the season, he was also instrumental for the Canaries by guiding them to Coupe de France title in the final at the Stade de France in Paris where he scored a decisive penalty that was instrumental in emerging the Champions.

All his top notch contributions were duly noticed and was as a result nominated among the 30 selected players from 13 countries to compete for the CAF 2022 Africa Player of The Year, and was the only Nigerian star that made the list and will be competing against the likes of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Bayern Munich new boy Sadio Mane, Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly among others.

With Moses Simon been nominated in the list, he could now be on the verge to become the first Nigerian player to win the most coveted award to sit on the African throne in over two decades, with the last Nigerian player to win the award being Arsenal’s legend Kanu Nwankwo back in 1999 which was a period of 23 years running.

Wishing him the very best of luck ahead of the announcement for the outright winner of the award.
