As the indefinite strike action embarked on by the organised labour union in the country entered day two, the Ondo State Government has called on the striking workers to be calm and peaceful in exercising their civil rights.
The state Head of Service, Mr Kayode Ogundele, in a statement, made the appeal to the workers in the state, on Wednesday.
He said the strike by the labour leadership across the country also affected the State.
“While we are not averse to the right of the union to exercise their right to protest against perceived unwanted policies, it is our wish that the protest should be given a human face so as not to ground government business.
“We appreciate the NLC and TUC for emphasising that the protest is not targeted at the Ondo State Government based on the Government/Labour harmonious relationship and the gains achieved so far. Based on this, we wish to enjoin labour to remain civil and peaceful such that critical business of government can go on during this protest.
“Workers, particularly senior ones who may wish to render their services should not be hindered in the overall interest of the State,” the statement read.
He added that the Akeredolu-led administration remained and would continue to be committed to workers’ welfare.
