Rivers United progressed to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League after edging DR Congo’s Les Aigles du Congo 1-0 in Uyo.
Defender Stephen Manyo struck in first-half added time at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium to seal victory in the tie, following a goalless first leg in Kinshasa last week.
Finidi George’s side will now face Mozambique’s Black Bulls for a place in the group stage of the competition for the first time in the club’s history.
The second preliminary round ties are scheduled between 17 and 26 October, with winners advancing to the lucrative group stage beginning on 21 November.

Nigeria still has 2 teams in the 2025/2026 CAF Champions League after the first round of matches. The pride of Rivers join NPFL Champions Remo Stars, who smashed US Zilimadjou 5-0 on aggregate.
The first leg will be played in Nigeria between 17–19 October 2025, with Remo Stars hosting at home. The decisive second leg is scheduled for 24–26 October 2025 in South Africa.
Meanwhile, in the CAF Confederation Cup, Ghana’s Asante Kotoko overcame Nigeria’s Kwara United with a 1-0 away win to complete a 5-3 aggregate triumph.

Hubert Gyau’s spectacular second-half strike proved decisive in Abeokuta, after Kwara had applied intense pressure in search of an equaliser.
Kotoko will now meet Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca in the second preliminary round. The first leg is set for 17–19 October, with the return leg between 24–26 October.
The 2025/26 CAF Interclub season will conclude in May 2026, when both finals will be staged.
