The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, has partnered the state Ministry of Environment in dredging new canals in Isoko South and Isoko North local government areas to curb the menace of flooding in the two council areas of the state.

DESOPADEC Managing Director, Chief Festus Ochonorgor, while on an inspection tour to assess the progress of work on the canals noted with concern that some communities in Isoko South and Isoko North councils have been adversely affected by flooding for decades

He told journalists that the project was designed partly to save the Ozoro-Asaba road from destruction by flooding as, according to him, the life span of the road would now be extended.

He added that the new canals will also curb flooding of houses and farms in the council areas.
