Explain delay in appointment of judges, court orders Obaseki

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki to show cause why he has delayed or refused to swear in eight Judges-designate of the Edo State High Court.

The National Judicial Council had since June 2023 recommended eight judges for appointment to the Edo State High Court.

However, the judges have yet to sowrn-in by the state governor.

Displeased with the situation, one Adaze  Emwanta draged the Governor of Edo State, the state Attorney General and the National Judicial Council to court in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/1634/2023.

Ruling on the matter, the presiding judge, Justice O. A. Egwuatu ordered the governor to show cause why the reliefs of the applicant should not be granted.
