The Nigerian Army has officially retired 15 senior officers from its Artillery Corps. This was disclosed in a statement shared on Sunday through the Army’s official X account. According to the announcement, the group of retirees includes 11 Major Generals and four Brigadier Generals.
The retirement ceremony took place at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery, located in Kachia, Kaduna State, on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
The statement read: “On October 19, 2024, the Nigerian Army formally retired 15 senior officers from its Artillery Corps during a ceremony held at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kachia, Kaduna State. Among the retirees were 11 Major Generals and 4 Brigadier Generals.”
During the event, one of the retirees, Major General James Myam, addressed his fellow officers, reflecting on their journey in service. He credited their success to divine grace, thanking God for protection throughout their military careers. He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, while acknowledging the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, and wishing him continued strength and wisdom in his role.
Maj Gen Myam also reminisced about the early days of their military careers, recalling when they first reported to the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna as Officer Cadets.
