Nigerian Afrobeat singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has narrated how being referred to as a frog inspired him.

This is as he disclosed the rationale behind his multi-million-naira frog pendant from Ice Box.

In a recent interview with GQ Magazine, the singer recalled being called a frog on X, formerly Twitter, because of his hoarse voice.

According to Davido, he decided to get himself an expensive frog neck pendant to get back at those making fun of him.

He also said he is a big fan of jewellery, and to celebrate his album getting a Grammy nomination this year, he decided to do a ‘Timeless’ chain.

“Everybody knows me. I’m a big fan of jewellery. Got the Patek, got the Rollie, two Rolexes. Famous Timeless piece I just did, obviously my new album, ‘Timeless’ came out earlier this year, Grammy nominated album Timeless.

“So I wanted to celebrate, to do something crazy for it so I got this idea of like an hourglass, because that represents patience to me. And I feel like every blessing that I’ve gotten through this album. It has a lot to do with me being patient and just knowing that everybody has their time that God will bless them.

“I made a frog chain because my voice is hoarse and they [trolls] were calling me frog on Twitter. I was like, you know what? I’m going to make a chain out of that sh*t,” the ‘OBO’ crooner said.

Davido is an American-born Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer. He was born in Georgia and raised in Lagos.

The artiste made his music debut as a member of the group KB International.

He rose to fame after releasing “Dami Duro”, the second single from his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo (2012), from which six additional singles —”Back When”, “Ekuro”, “Overseas”, “All of You”, “Gbon Gbon” and “Feel Alright”— were taken.

In 2012, Davido won the Next Rated award at The Headies.

Between 2013 and 2015, he released the hit singles “Gobe”, “One of a Kind”, “Skelewu”, “Aye”, “Tchelete (Goodlife)”, “Naughty”, “Owo Ni Koko”, “The Sound” and “The Money”.
